“Until mid-spring, the incidence rate of COVID-19, as well as the number of deaths, will decrease, the rates may be halved,” the specialist emphasized. In his opinion, soon the situation with the pandemic may sharply improve.
Nevertheless, after this, a new surge in the incidence is possible due to the natural spring peak. The fact is that vaccination is slower than the spread of the virus. To completely neutralize the virus and prevent a new possible wave, universal vaccination is needed, the expert concluded.
Earlier, Tavadyan said that Russia has already overcome the plateau in terms of COVID-19 infection. According to him, the current situation can be assessed as positively stable, in 68 regions the rate of spread of coronavirus is fading away. At the moment, the most favorable indicator for the extinction of the pandemic is observed in Moscow.
On January 22, Natalya Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, said that in Russia there is a trend towards a decrease in the incidence of coronavirus, but small rises are still possible. She indicated that it is possible to speak carefully about the stabilization of the situation, but it is too early to talk about the victory over COVID-19.
