Comment The Coalition’s story took almost unbelievable turns – This is how a rescue plan based on Elina Lepomäki and Juhana Vartiainen could work

The Coalition Party has been ravaging the swamp of identity politics in recent months. Now the view of a dry land seems to have fallen in front of it, writes Lari Malmberg, the head of the city editorial board.

Deus ex machina – God of the machine. The phrase, which dates back to ancient Greece, tends to refer to an incredible twist that changes the direction of a dead end story.

The protagonist who gets into the climb is saved when god figures free from worldly constraints are lowered onto the stage.

The protagonist of last weekend was the Coalition Party, which instantly became a crisis party. Kirsi Piha completely abandoned the candidacy of mayor, and the Coalition election spring began to seem like a tragedy both in Helsinki and in the whole country.

This happened on Saturday. On Sunday, two characters were cast on stage, many of whom the Coalition Party now hopes for the gods of the story.

The pace and surprise of the turns are at an almost unbelievable level. But can Elina from Lepomäki and Juhana from Vartiainen still become Coalition rescuers?

Basic Finns and the demars are poking nationwide, the Greens seem to have passed the latest coalition as Helsinki’s largest party, according to Gallup. The elections are due to take place in less than two months.

At the same time, the Coalition Party itself has seemed to be sinking deeper and deeper into the swamp of identity politics. Party chairman Petteri Orpoa is already heavily criticized for trying to bow at the same time to both liberals and conservatives – without ultimately succeeding in either.

In Helsinki in particular, value liberals still have a strong grip, but in many provinces, Coalition Party voters are already feared to leak to basic Finns.

So what’s the advice?

The Coalition Party may now end up offering its old asset: financial know-how.

Mixed Member of Parliament Vartiainen, who is considering the candidacy of mayor, and Member of Parliament Lepomäki, who has sacrificed Helsinki’s rake in Espoo, are distinctive economic politicians and hard-working economic professionals.

Both are also value liberals, but value politics in their image is clearly subordinate to economic thinking.

The Coalition certainly had no plans or hopes for the departure of the Yard, but after a complete knockout, the solution that popped into the hand in a semi-accident seems to have enough advantages that it could be the result of brainstorming.

A bidirectional party cannot be reassured by seeking a line between ideologies. But what if the focus were on something else?

Speaking of strict economic discipline at the mouths of Lepomäki and Vartiainen, the Coalition Party may try to rise above some plowing. The set-up has also been completed: Korona has treated Helsinki’s economy with great hands, and good advice is now expensive.

In addition to reassuring oneself, the economic tip could also be a weapon for the Coalition against the Greens and the Finns. The Coalition Party cannot be more basic Finns than the Basic Finns or greener than the Greens, but it can rely on its own traditional strengths.

Coalition Party Lepomäki, who will be the next chairman, is currently one of the Coalition Party’s and Finland’s most popular politicians. He makes the battered boat of the Helsinki Coalition Party look much more competitive again.

It is needed if the Coalition Party wants to win the Greens in the spring election and fight for the position of the largest party and the mayor’s wash.

Vartiainen’s popularity is not in Lepomäki’s class, but he also has the edge of the person to be voted on.

The Coalition Party is now passionately weighing their options. However, Vartiainen, supported by Lepomäki, is most likely at least strong.

Member of Parliament who has been involved in candidate speculation Sari Sarkomaa announced Sunday night that he is not available as a mayoral candidate. Yard in the previous round challenged Wille Rydman again said he supported Vartia.

However, what kind of mayor Vartiainen would become for Helsinki is already a different question. Vartiainen’s political experience is still quite thin, and cabinet twisting and political trains may not be among his biggest interests.

Vartiainen’s managerial experience is also quite thin in the end. He has headed both the State Economic Research Center in Vatti and the research department of the Swedish Economic Research Center. However, both are in the boxing workshop class compared to the city of Helsinki, which employs almost 40,000 people.

The story was supplemented on March 1 at 7.02 with announcements by Sarkoma and Rydman.
