Among them are police officers who defied orders to shoot their fellow citizens protesting the country’s military coup. Now they live in hiding and in fear for their families who remain in Myanmar. Although locals and the authorities of Mizoram state have sympathy for the refugees, with whom they share close ethnic ties, the federal government of India wants to stop their entry into the territory.
