The deputy leader of the Government at the Chamber Evair de Melo (PP-ES) stated this Thursday (July 1st, 2021) that President Jair Bolsonaro is “super easy” in the face of suspicions in purchases of vaccine against covid-19 by the Ministry of Health. The deputy participated with the head of the Executive in a mass this morning.
“The president is super calm. The president is a man who has shown himself with the strength to live with these adversities in the political world, in the public world. You are very aware, trust your teams“, he declared after being asked if he spoke to Bolsonaro about the accusations in relation to the purchase of the Indian vaccine Covaxin.
Melo was with Bolsonaro at a celebration at the Nossa Senhora da Saúde Parish, in Asa Norte, in Brasília. Afterwards, the deputy participated in a government meeting on administrative reform at the Planalto Palace, where he spoke to the press.
This morning, after speaking with supporters, Bolsonaro left the Palácio da Alvorada and attended the mass with allies of his government, among them deputies Eros Biondini (Pros-MG), Bia Kicis (PSL-DF), as well as Evair de Melo and Senator Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS). The Mass was celebrated by the Archbishop of Brasília, Dom Paulo Cezar Costa. The appointment was broadcast on TV Brasil, but it was not on the president’s official agenda.
In addition to possible irregularities in the Covaxin contract, which was suspended, a Ministry of Health official was also accused of charging a US$ 1 bribe in negotiations to purchase vaccines from AstraZeneca.
The request for bribes would have been made by the Ministry’s Logistics director, Roberto Ferreira Dias. He left his post after reporting from the Folha de São Paulo about the case. In testimony to Covid’s CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) in the Senate this Thursday (July 1, 2021), military police officer and freelance salesman Luiz Paulo Dominghetti repeated the accusations about the alleged request for bribery.
“Naturally, time is the lord of reason and time will show that the government is in the right direction and on the right path to do what Brazil needs and deserves.” said Melo. At an event in Mato Grosso do Sul on Wednesday (June 30, 2021), Bolsonaro criticized the performance of the CPI. “It won’t be with lies or with a CPI, made up of 7 thieves, that will get us out of here”, said.
