This Saturday (3), at 7:30 am (Brasilia time), the Brazilian men’s basketball team has a decisive game in the Pre-Olympic, in Split (Croatia). The country faces Mexico in the semifinal of the tournament, which only guarantees the champion a place in the Tokyo Games (Japan). If they win, the Brazilian team will decide the final at 2:30 pm on Sunday (4), against Croatia or Germany, who will make the other semifinal this Saturday (3), at 1:00 pm.

The men’s team wants to take the last chance to guarantee themselves in the Games and follow the tradition of the Olympics: Brazilian basketball was only left out of the Montreal (Canada) Games in 1976 – both the women’s and men’s teams. Since then, the modality has won three bronze medals (London/1948, Rome/1960 and Tokyo/1964) in the men’s competition; and a silver (Atlanta/1996) and a bronze (Sydney/2000) in the female. In the Tokyo edition, the country will not have the performance of the women’s team.
The Brazilian men’s team reaches the semifinals against Mexico undefeated. There were two convincing victories against Tunisia (83 to 57) and hosts Croatia (94 to 67).
“Our team is ready, healthy and with 12 players prepared for the game against Mexico. Beating Mexico means expending the energies of Ayon, Cruz and being careful with guard Stoll. We are favorites, but basketball is won on the court,” said Croatian Aleksandar Petrovic, who assumed the technical command of the national team in October 2017.
Forward Bruno Caboclo is confident the group will make it to the Pre-Olympic final on Sunday.
Our team has been working very well in defense and everyone knows what to do. If we keep that footing, we have every chance of qualifying and making it to the final on Sunday. Playing without the ball, when we have it, we know what to do”, guaranteed the athlete in a statement on the website of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB).
