Coronavirus in Argentina: another 286 deaths and 15,622 new positive cases are reported

While the crosses with Russia continue due to the lack of component 2 of the vaccine Sputnik V, the Ministry of Health of the Nation reported this Friday another 286 deaths and 15,622 new cases of coronavirus. Thus, the country already counts 103,359 fatalities and 4,827,973 infections.

Of the 259,627 people who are suffering from the disease, 4,358 remain hospitalized in Intensive Care Units ICU). The level of occupancy of beds in this sector is 56.3% in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Buenos Aires (AMBA) and 58.5% in the rest of the country.

Of the last deceased, 105 resided in the province of Buenos Aires, 45 in Santa Fe, 21 in Mendoza, 19 in Córdoba; 16 in the City of Buenos Aires and Chaco; eleven in Salta, ten in Santiago del Estero, nine in Catamarca, six in Jujuy; five in Formosa and San Luis; four in La Pampa; three in Río Negro and San Juan; two in Chubut, La Rioja and Tucumán; and one in Santa Cruz and Entre Ríos.

In the last 24 hours, 104,287 tests were carried out, with a 14.9% positivity.

Meanwhile, Argentina in the last hours exceeded the 41 million doses received since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 15.3 million arrived in the country during the month of July.

With the arrival of two flights from Beijing, yesterday afternoon and this morning, with 768 thousand and 320 thousand vaccines of Sinopharm, respectively, the shipment of 8 million doses was completed in a period of 19 days from the contract signed with the laboratory China National Pharmaceutical Group Corp, which contemplates the delivery of a total of 24 million until September, at a rate of 8 million per month.

During July 17 flights landed in the country with 1,744,000 doses of Sputnik V (1,141,000 for component 1 and 603,000 for component 2); 2,082,700 of AstraZeneca Y Oxford; 3,500,000 of Modern (donated by the United States); and 8,000,000 of Sinopharm.

According to the Public Vaccination Monitor, as of this morning 34,369,574 doses were distributed in all jurisdictions, while 29,075,280 were applied.

Of this total, 23,209,621 people were inoculated with the first dose and 5,865,659 have the complete immunization schedule.

The Minister of Health Carla Vizzotti assured that “priority one” of the Government is to complete the vaccination scheme of the population and that work is being done to have the second dose of Sputnik V, while official spokesmen from Russia ratified their commitment to supply of the vaccine to “all the countries that acquired the immunizer, including Argentina”, although they stressed that the priority is to immunize their population.

The head of the health portfolio added that “with AstraZeneca and Sinopharm” vaccination schedules are being completed “without a problem” and confided that there is still a group of people who have already completed 90 days from the application of the first dose and that in that segment is where they are aiming to find a solution.

After these statements it was known that the European Medicine Agency (EMA) approved the Moderna laboratory vaccine for minors between 17 and 12 years old, which makes it possible to start vaccination in Argentina for young people, adolescents and children with risk factors.

As soon as the 3,500,000 vaccines from the Moderna laboratory donated by the United States arrived, the national government decided to keep them in the Andreani logistics center to await this authorization.
