Sarita Libuh and the mystery after the bridge is the title of the novel of the Costa Rican writer Monserrat Curriel, a story linked to his own life, but more like a metaphor of what every human being comes to face: facing a new reality, within a very different environment.
“Crossing the bridge was starting in a new culture, with another language, accompanied by a girl and with all the fears that appear in that process. All the concerns that appear along the way merge with the magic of life, because it is as if there was a perfect plan, where we meet people from different places who shake hands: it is a call for people to remember that there is always something positive in that step we take ”.
And it is that after spending a good part of her life in Costa Rica, she embarked on a new path as a diplomat in Switzerland, convinced that all the changes we make have a reason for being, so the book ends up being a fusion of her experience of life and of what his daughters give him every day.
“I am a mother and I work one hundred percent, but from a very young age I have liked the theme of writing, fantasy and magic… I used to love making up stories, Children’s Stories, but I think that during my second pregnancy I had the time to give myself the task of recovering that passion.
“I never imagined it would be to publish, but rather to entertain myself at that moment and we got the book out. As a mother, having my two girls, the possibility of enjoying childhood again, to see things from the eyes of a child, in this case of my daughters, one of 14 and the other of four; that is what prompted me to keep going and continue writing for this population ”, explains the author of Sarita Libuh and the mystery after the bridge, translated into English and French and arriving in Mexico in the form of comic, with illustrations by Ed Jiménez.
The volume tells the story of Sarita, a girl who does not imagine the adventure that awaits her when crossing that bridge that hangs over a mighty river, because when she reaches the other side she will begin a new life in a magical world; It is a genre that has been part of the growth of Monserrat Curriel, who from a very young age imagined things that, perhaps, cannot happen in the reality we live in, but could develop on a large scale in her mind.
“Fantasy has allowed me to be that channel that shapes fear, sadness, which really represents many of those emotions that we have and, sometimes, we don’t know how to describe. It has also allowed me to show the boys and girls that there are gray days, ups and downs: we must see life as a permanent change, where everything is possible ”.
And not only that, because thanks to fantasy it has been allowed to approach spaces that are not always shown, especially in the case of childhoods and topics such as Alzheimer’s or certain conditions, such as autism, being a book that addresses these inclusion issues in a different way, “not from the idea that it is something strange, but the same character, in such a way that their way of seeing the universe is reflected in a more bearable way , more natural”.
