A French court ordered on Tuesday (6) that Twitter deliver to associations that fight against discrimination, within two months, documents detailing its efforts to combat racism, sexism and other forms of hate speech on the network. Social.

Six associations took Twitter to French courts last year, accusing the US social networking giant of “long and persistent” failures to block hateful comments on the network.

The Paris court ordered Twitter to give groups full access to all documents related to the company’s efforts to combat hate mail since May 2020. The ruling applies to Twitter internationally, not just France.

Twitter must deliver “all administrative, contractual, technical or commercial documents” detailing the resources allocated to combat homophobic, racist and sexist discourse.

The company said it is studying the court’s decision. “Our absolute priority is to ensure the safety of users,” Twitter assured AFP, highlighting its commitment to combating “hate online”.

The San Francisco-based company has had two months to comply with the decision, which also says it must disclose the number of moderators it employs in France to review messages marked as hateful, as well as data on messages from that process.
