As part of Live your Sidewalk project, collectives in favor of pedestrian rights With the support of authorities, they participated in the ear painting in four parts of the city, these are: Juárez and Falcón, Juárez and Rodríguez, Matamoros and Valdez Carrillo, Besides the Hidalgo and Juan Antonio de la Fuente in Torreón.
This action is part of the citizen project ‘Live your Sidewalk’, which was made known to key actors such as chambers, schools, activists at citizen participation tables. It was chosen as the fourth most interesting strategy for the Historic Center.
This Sunday the construction of the four safe road crossings with pocket parks began, where groups in favor of pedestrian rights such as Wheels of the Desert, Lagoon I Love You among others, as well as the addresses of Public Works, Road Maintenance, Traffic and Urban Mobility they worked coordinated for its placement.
“Eight out of ten Mexicans live in urban areas. The challenges that our cities present are increasing: road congestion, pollution, inequality and frustrated communities before them. In addition to this, Covid-19 forces us to reimagine and change the way we live. To face these challenges we need to take advantage of collective intelligence in cities ”, says the project page.
The Multi-City Challenge 2020 invites the community of the participating cities to become actively involved in the design of public policies and programs, designing solutions to the problems that directly affect them. This initiative is led by The Governance Lab at New York University, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan program.
The participating citizen team was: Jesús Enrique Torres, Francisco Javier Díaz Martínez, Rosa Velia Gutiérrez Barrón The responsible Municipal Office is the IMPLAN and municipal team: Alejandra Martínez Avilés, Alejandra Garza, Antonio Ramírez Reyes, Daniela Valles, Eduardo González Madero, Luis Castrellón Reyes, Miriam González Quintana.
At the point of Falcón and Juárez were citizens who are part of Desert Wheels and his representative Francisco Valdez Perezgasga they participated in the painting of the pedestrian sidewalks.
“Surrounding the ears are projected the so-called Parks with shadows, benches, tables so that citizens can sit for a while in the shade or have a drink,” he said.
