The news site UOL bases its claim on recordings in which Bolsonaro’s former wit explains the bribery pattern.
Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro was involved in an arrangement in which he withheld parts of his assistants’ salaries, a Brazilian website said UOL on Monday. Based on its report, the news agency Reuters and The Guardian.
According to UOL, Bolsonaro was involved in a embezzlement project known as rachadinhana in Brazil while working as a legislature for Congress in the lower house from 1991-2018. In Rachadinha, a politician takes a portion of the wages of his subordinates, and cases often involve favoring loved ones in recruitment.
In recordings given to UOL by an anonymous source, Bolsonaro’s sister’s second wife Andrea Siqueira Valle tells how his brother André Siqueira was dismissed from his job under Bolsonaro because he did not surrender the required amount of his salary.
“Finally, Jair said,‘ Now is enough. You can get rid of him because he never gives me the right amount of money, ”Valle says in a recording.
The accusations misuse of public funds could be brought before the Federal Government of Bolsonaro.
However, Brazilian law does not allow a sitting president to be prosecuted for a crime committed before taking office. Prosecutors should therefore wait until the end of the term.
The new allegations added impetus to demands for a presidential resignation. Bolsonaro is seen as having miserably treated the coronavirus pandemic and has also been accused of suspected corruption in vaccine procurement.
Since the end of May, there have been three major demonstrations against Bolsonaro in Brazil, the most recent of which last Saturday, July 3rd.
