The Russian Ambassador pointed to the continuation of the US pressure policy towards Russia

The United States government will continue its policy of pressure on Russia, including on democratic values and human rights. This was announced on Saturday, July 3, by the Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov.

According to him, neither before nor after the Geneva summit of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Joe Biden there were no statements on the sidelines of the US government that the containment policy aimed at Moscow would be changed. The diplomat shared his opinion that human rights issues will act as a central irritant in the Russian-American dialogue.

“This sanction ship was launched much earlier, it goes by itself, because in the Congress, in fact, (formed – Ed.) A consensus regarding toughness towards our country. When I returned (to Washington after consultations in Moscow – Ed.), I immediately sent requests to Congress with a request to meet, to talk about how we should live further, I, of course, would very much like to restore inter-parliamentary ties . However, in response, I heard “no” or impolite silence, generally the absence of any answer, “the Russian ambassador shared on the YouTube channel” Soloviev Live “.

In addition, Antonov recalled that the Biden administration has repeatedly made statements that the policy of sanctions pressure against Russia will continue further, and at the same time Washington independently secured the right to determine the degree of correctness of the actions of the Russian government – “the right to be a judge and an executor.” …

The diplomat added that in some points of the Russian-American dialogue there are some gaps, and in them Moscow is trying to find “something positive” or to develop further points “which, obviously, bring us (Russia – Ed.) Closer to the Americans.”

Earlier that day, Anatoly Antonov stated that Russia and the United States have a basis for stabilizing relations. Geneva did not bring dramatic changes to the Russian-American dialogue, but Moscow is ready to work further towards improving bilateral communication.

On June 28, US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan announced his readiness to do everything possible to improve bilateral relations between the countries. He stressed that Russian-American relations are of great value for their participants.

Russian-American relations entered a new round of exacerbation after Washington imposed new sanctions on Moscow on April 15. On the same day, it became known about the expulsion of 10 employees of the Russian diplomatic mission in Washington. On April 16, Moscow introduced countermeasures in response.

On April 30, the US Embassy in Russia announced that it would stop issuing nonimmigrant visas and visas for non-diplomatic travel. Also, the American Embassy in Moscow announced that it would reduce the number of consular services provided from May 12 due to Moscow’s decision to ban the hiring of foreigners. In addition, the staff of the consulate will be reduced by 75%.

The US diplomatic mission recommended that Americans, whose Russian visa expires, leave the country before June 15.

At the same time, on May 21, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Russian diplomatic missions in the United States still continue to work as usual, despite pressure from Washington.
