The number of downloads of the popular Telegram application worldwide has surpassed the one billion mark, the portal reports. TechCrunch with reference to Sensor Tower data.
The messenger, which was launched at the end of 2013, joined the “elite club” last Friday. It clarifies that the largest share of Telegram downloads (22 percent) falls on India. It is followed by Russia and Indonesia, accounting for about 10 percent and 8 percent, respectively.
Telegram has become the fifteenth application with over a billion users. The list already includes WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, Spotify, Netflix and other apps.
In January, Telegram was named the most downloaded non-gaming app in the world. In the first month of the year, the messenger was downloaded more than 63 million times, which is almost four times more than last year’s figures for the same period.
