Arctic group of the Northern Fleet conducted an exercise to protect islands in the Laptev Sea

The Arctic group of the Northern Fleet (SF) conducted an interspecific tactical exercise to protect the island zone in the Laptev Sea. This was announced on Monday, September 27, according to the press service of the Federation Council.

Vice-Admiral Oleg Golubev, Deputy Commander of the Northern Fleet, supervised the exercise. It is emphasized that the maneuvers were of a defensive nature.

During the events, the amphibious assault landing on the Arctic coast of the island was practiced.

The Marines performed live firing from machine guns, machine guns, mortars and grenade launchers at targets imitating the manpower and equipment of a conventional enemy. The crews of the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft gun complex successfully fired at coastal and air targets at a distance of up to 3 kilometers.

The coastal missile system “Bastion”, stationed on Kotelny Island, worked out an alert advance to position and the conditional destruction by cruise missiles of a paratrooper detachment of a simulated enemy on the route of the Northern Sea Route. The task was carried out using computer simulation of the situation without the actual use of weapons.

On September 21, a detachment of ships of the Northern Fleet conducted artillery fire in the Laptev Sea. During the exercises, the defense of the Northern Sea Route was practiced. As part of the events, the crews of the large anti-submarine ship “Severomorsk” and the large landing ship “George the Victorious” fired naval artillery at air and sea targets.

The Arctic group of the Northern Fleet arrived at the Novosibirsk Islands archipelago. Ships and vessels took up anchorage places in the Gulf of Stakhanovites in the Arctic near Kotelny Island

The tenth Arctic campaign of the surface forces of the Northern Fleet began on August 10 with an exit from the main fleet base of the city of Severomorsk. During the Arctic voyage, ships and support vessels of the Northern Fleet covered more than 8 thousand 700 nautical miles, conducted a number of exercises in the waters of the Barents and Kara Seas, as well as in the port of Dudinka.
