The founder of the VKontakte social network and the Telegram messenger, Pavel Durov, believes that a person’s mental state depends on the quality of the information they consume and urges netizens to pay less attention to Netflix series or TikTok videos. In his opinion, they overload the brain of people and force them to seek solutions to non-existent problems, the businessman said in his Telegram-channel.
He called the mind the most powerful tool of people, which actively generates new ideas even while a person is resting or not doing anything. Durov noted that often the solution to any complex problems comes to mind after a full sleep and urged to fill his head with data that allow him to solve fundamental problems.
The founder of Telegram assures that instead of feeding their minds with real facts that can change the world, people prefer to spend time consuming “sticky mud” in the form of Netflix series and TikTok videos. At a deep level, the brain cannot distinguish fiction from reality, which forces our subconscious mind to search for solutions to problems that do not exist.
American entertainment company Netflix is a provider of streaming media-based films and series. It was founded on August 29, 1997 by Reed Hastings and Mark Randolph. The company has 203.7 million subscribers worldwide as of January 2021, with the company spending $ 11.8 billion on content creation in 2020.
At the end of 2020, Netflix entered the four most popular online cinemas in Russia after ivi, Kinopoisk HD and Okko
Despite Durov’s harsh remarks about Netflix, the company began to increasingly acquire rights to broadcast Russian film products. In 2016, “Major” became the first series in which the company showed interest. In subsequent years, Western platforms made deals with the creators of such popular films as Epidemic, Silver Skates, Method, Better than People, Trotsky, Sparta, Fartsa, Dyatlov Pass … General Director of Roskino Evgenia Markova told RT, that the interest of foreign sites in Russian products is due to the development of the domestic film industry.
Recently, during the filming of one of the Netflix projects in Obninsk, the team of the Russian TV series Anna K was convicted of damaging a historic building at a cultural heritage site called Morozova’s Dacha. Representatives of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (VOOPIK) noted that on the territory of the Turliki estate, built in the second half of the 19th century and since 1909 owned by the widow of the famous patron of the arts Morozov Margarita, they arbitrarily changed the appearance of some elements of the building for filming.
In the TikTok application, there are often “trends” and “challenges”, sometimes very strange or even dangerous, which force its users to take and shoot certain actions in pursuit of views of their content.
More than a billion users in 150 countries use the TikTok mobile app
So recently, the TikTok administration banned a popular challenge in the application called Milk Crate Challenge. This decision was due to the opinion of doctors, who recognized such entertainment as dangerous. The essence of the challenge is that participants must record on video how they climb up empty milk boxes, stacked on top of each other in the form of a ladder. The base of this design is unstable, so TikTokers have to demonstrate their balancing skills during the ascent and descent.
Another dangerous trend in the app, after which NHS doctors called for a ban on the sale of piercing magnets, was to place them on either side of the tongue and wiggle them to show that the piercing was real. This led to a series of unsuccessful attempts to repeat the trick, after which the teenagers who had swallowed the jewelry had to be operated on.
