A similarity in the data forced a French octogenarian, Montpellier resident, Francis López, to pay taxes for someone else who matches him in almost everything for 15 years.
The problem of the retired military Lopez began in 2006, when the authorities recorded that he had another income, on which he paid additional taxes.
The man tried to convince the authorities that he was not involved, but he failed and he continued to pay twice, paying 700 euros on behalf of the man.
Because of a new tax law, the old man feared that failure to pay would cost him many times the withholding amount.
“Our name is Frances Lopez, we are both (in reference to the other person with similar data) born on October 6, 1938. We have the same Social Security number, except for the last three digits,” Lopez told French media. I started having problems in 2006.”
“I pay his taxes,” he says.
Lopez’s story received attention in French media and social media, and tax authorities announced that it would soon be resolved.
