October could be uncomfortable towards the end. After a mild start, temperatures should drop significantly.
Munich – After the changeable and rainy summer, September was almost like a late summer reparation. The Germans had the longest periods of good weather with pleasant temperatures and no rain in the ninth month of the year. But the advancing autumn could get colder in October and end the summer aftermath.
Weather: Cold air tongue over Germany – first snow possible at the beginning of October
Adrienne Jeske, weather expert at wetter.net explains that in the coming days a tongue of cold air will take its place over Germany – and that it should not disappear anytime soon. This will probably also mean cooler temperatures.
As early as October 1st, the first snowflakes or sleet could come in the low mountain range, as her colleague Dominik Jung predicts. Temperatures of 0 to -4 degrees are to be expected at an altitude of 1500 meters. However, it remains rather mild in the first week of October in the lowlands. During the day, temperatures in the flatlands fluctuate between around 20 and 14 degrees.
Weather in Germany: Mild October likely – towards the end there is a risk of a drop in temperature
According to Jung, however, a significant drop in temperature is “more than unlikely,” since most weather forecasts do not show such a change. The uncertainty is “great” and even summer temperatures in October are possible again. Around October 19th it could still be up to 18 degrees during the day in Germany, as is the weather trend from wetter.de can be found. Only at night does it get cooler and the ground threatens to freeze.
Towards the end of the month, however, temperatures should drop sharply, especially at night. The predicted minimum temperatures in northern and western Germany are said to be only four degrees around October 24th. In the south in Munich even below zero degrees. If there is also precipitation, the first snow could fall in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg even at lower altitudes at the end of October. It is therefore advisable to adhere to the “Easter to October” rule and to put on the winter tires in good time. (md)
