Munich – 61 percent of German citizens think it is right to expand the 2G rule nationwide. This was the result of a Forsa survey on behalf of RTL and ntv on Friday. A total of 1012 people were interviewed for this. The majority therefore spoke out in favor of the fact that restaurants, retail outlets or events should only be attended by those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. 36 percent are against it. When it comes to vaccination rates, opinions differ significantly: around half of those surveyed (49 percent) think that access restrictions for unvaccinated people could increase the vaccination rate. 47 percent disagree.

The vaccination rate in Germany reached the two-thirds mark on Friday: Around 66.6 percent of the population are fully vaccinated against Corona. This is based on data from the Robert Koch Institute. These are lower limits; the actual vaccination rate could be up to five percentage points higher.

Corona lockdown: every seventh cancer patient does not receive life-saving surgery

The international research network COVIDSurg found in a current study that every seventh cancer patient had to forego a life-saving tumor operation during one of the previous corona lockdowns. The Tübingen University Hospital, which itself collaborated on the study, reported in a press release on Friday. The study was published in the renowned journal Lancet Oncology and relates to data from 20,000 cancer patients from around the world. These were compiled by 5,000 surgeons around the world, taking into account the 15 most common cancers.

On average, 15 percent and thus every seventh cancer patient missed the potentially life-saving tumor operation. The remaining patients were operated on with an average delay of 5.3 months. The researchers divided the data into high, middle, and low income countries. In doing so, they found that the health care of cancer patients, especially in poorer countries, was hit harder. Those most in need of protection were particularly hard hit by the restrictions, according to Professor Dr. Alfred Königsrainer, clinical director of the study in Tübingen and medical director of the University Clinic for General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery. “This is why securing capacities for cancer operations should become an important component of national pandemic planning in order to avoid disadvantages for these very endangered patients,” added Königsrainer.

Fight against Corona: Jens Spahn advises the population to booster vaccinations

The managing health minister Jens Spahn (CDU) had himself given a booster vaccination on Thursday. “I am promoting that many others do the same,” said the CDU politician on Twitter. “Booster (strengthen) your vaccination protection for the winter!” So far, the booster vaccination has been recommended for people over 60 years of age, who usually belong to the risk group. It is also useful for people who work in health care, have previous illnesses or are in need of care, said Spahn. He also warned not to let the intensive care units in hospitals increase too much.

“Now in the cold season, the number of infections is rising sharply, and just like in other federal states, the situation in the intensive care units and in the hospitals is increasingly tense,” said Berlin Health Senator Dilek Kalayci of the German Press Agency. She called on Federal Health Minister Spahn to “enable binding nationwide retention quotas for the care of Covid 19 patients in the intensive care units and to get the funding on the way.”

Corona numbers in Germany are increasing, Baden-Württemberg over the 250 mark

The Robert Koch Institute reported 24,668 new infections within one day on Friday, around 5000 cases more than a week earlier. The seven-day incidence is currently 130.2, in the previous week the value was 95.1. In some regions of the country, a corona warning level is getting closer, as the German press agency reported on Friday.

Accordingly, the number of corona patients in intensive care units in Baden-Württemberg was above the 250 mark for the first time on Friday. If the value exceeds this limit on two consecutive working days, restrictions on unvaccinated people are the result. They then have to show a negative PCR test in many areas in order to gain access. Stricter rules are also planned in some regions in Bavaria.
