Moldova will purchase gas from Gazprom at a price lower than the market price. This was stated by Alina Merlich, adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure of the country Andrei Spynu, who is in talks in St. Petersburg.
According to her, Russian gas will cost Chisinau cheaper than any other source.
Earlier it was reported that Gazprom and Moldovagaz extended the contract for the supply of Russian gas to Moldova for five years. The company said that the contract was concluded for five years. Russian gas supplies to Moldovan consumers will begin on November 1 on mutually beneficial terms, Gazprom said.
They also said in Chisinau that during the negotiations in St. Petersburg it was possible to agree on a formula for calculating the price of gas and auditing the debt accumulated by the Moldovagaz company.
At the end of September, the agreements between Moldova and Gazprom on supplies expired, after which the country faced a gas crisis. The Russian side insisted that Chisinau pay off the existing debt, Moldova did not want to recognize it. Prime Minister Natalya Gavrilitsa argued that the country cannot afford to buy gas at market prices and agree to pay the debt and receive a 25 percent discount.
