Italian Prime Minister spoke about the change in Russia’s position on one issue

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said that Russia and China for the first time changed their positions on the issue of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Writes about it RIA News

“The driving factor in the negotiations was that every move forward from previous language and results from rich countries that produce more greenhouse gases will be accompanied by promises of support,” Draghi said.

According to the Italian prime minister, he expected a tougher position from China in the climate talks a few days ago, but they felt “a desire to use a more forward-looking language.”

Draghi also stressed that Moscow and Beijing recognized the scientific rationale for curbing warming by one and a half degrees. “This is a difficult commitment that requires very significant sacrifices,” he said.

In addition, the head of the Italian government said that today’s differences in the approach to reductions are often due to practical reasons. “China produces 50 percent of the world’s steel, and many of these plants use coal, so these plants need to be refurbished,” Draghi said, concluding that “this makes it difficult to reach more ambitious targets immediately.”

Earlier, the leading countries of the world, members of the G20 group and taking part in its summit in Rome, agreed to save the planet. The summit participants reached an agreement that they will commit themselves to limit the rate of global warming. It should be capped at 1.5 degrees Celsius from pre-industrial levels.
