OM: Polish man who died in the Hague tram incident had drunk a lot

The Polish man who died in a tram accident in The Hague had drunk too much alcohol. Toxicological research shows that he had a blood alcohol level of 3.6 in his blood, the judiciary confirmed on Wednesday after reporting. from Omroep West. A blood alcohol level of 3.6 is equivalent to about fifteen glasses of alcohol. Driving is prohibited at a permille of 0.5 (about two glasses).

The 39-year-old man died last Monday after an incident in the Ypenburg district of The Hague. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) suspects a 15-year-old boy of manslaughter because he allegedly pushed the man. At that moment a tram pulled up. The Pole ended up under it, after which he died of his injuries. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the boy was aware of the situation and the approaching tram. The examining magistrate ruled last week that the suspect must remain in pre-trial detention for two more weeks.

Justice is still investigating the exact cause of the incident. It is unclear if there was an argument between the boy and the man. Earlier, a spokesperson stated that the man approached the 15-year-old several times. The boy may have been with another 15-year-old and an 18-year-old. They may have run away after the incident; the Public Prosecution Service suspects them of ‘leaving a person in need’ but not of causing a fatal incident.
