A Reuters survey pointed out that the United States surpassed the 700,000 deaths mark for Covid-19 this Friday (1). According to data from the news agency, the country still leads the number of cases and deaths from the disease in the world, accounting for 19% and 14% of all infections and deaths reported, respectively. Worldwide, the pandemic has killed more than 5 million people.

Reuters reported that the United States averaged more than 2,000 deaths a day last week, equivalent to 60% of the peak in January. With the Delta variant, the country had an increase in cases that peaked in mid-September, before dropping to the current level of 117,625 cases per day.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 56% of the country’s population is fully vaccinated and 65% have received at least one dose. Adherence to vaccination is lower in regions of the Midwest and South compared to areas in the Northeast and West Coast, the most urbanized in the United States.
