Netta Tuesday (30) is the deadline for the payment of the first installment of the 13th salary for Brazilian workers with a formal contract. According to the rule, after fifteen days of service, the worker is already entitled. INSS retirees and pensioners also receive the benefit.
Known as the Christmas bonus, the benefit introduced in Brazil in 1962 is paid in two installments. The second part of the amount must be deposited by December 20th, based on the December salary less the amount advanced in the first installment.

How to do the calculation?
According to the Superior Labor Court (TST), the 13th salary is calculated by dividing the full remuneration by twelve and multiplying the result by the number of months worked. Overtime, nighttime surcharges, unhealthy conditions and additional commissions are also included in this calculation.
The employee is also entitled to the benefit when the employment contract is terminated, either for a specified period or even by the employee’s request for dismissal. Only the professional dismissed for just cause is not entitled to the benefit.
The Government’s expectation is that the benefit will help inject R$ 232 billion into the Brazilian economy. In all, 83 million people are expected to receive the benefit. This year, the average amount of payment across the country is R$ 2,500, according to a survey by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese).
