The Nordic Council Literature Prize went to Greenlandic writer Niviaq Korneliussen for her novel Naasuliardarpi.
The Nordic Council (PN) has presented its annual awards in the field of culture at the Council meeting in Copenhagen.
A total of 54 nominees from 8 countries competed for the awards. This time, no awards were given to Finnish artists.
The Council’s Literature Prize went to a Greenlandic author Niviaq Korneliussen from his novel Naasuliardarpi (2020). The name of the novel means flower valley in Finnish. The work tells the story of mainstream Greenland and the young people who are fighting for the right to live the life they want.
Published in 2014 HOMO sapiennen Since his debut novel, Korneliussen has been called the new star of Greenlandic literature.
Children’s and Young People’s Literature Prize was granted to a Swede I lived for Persson from his novel De afghanska sönerna. The first work of social anthropologist Persson deals with refugees, among other things.
Faroese musician Eivør Pálsdóttir was awarded this year’s music prize. The award was given to Pálsdóttir for his tireless work on his musical heritage.
The film award was given to a Dane Fleefor the movie. Behind the animated documentary is a screenwriter-director Jonas Poher Rasmussen, screenwriter Amin as well as producers Monica Hellström, Charlotte de la Gournerie and Signe Byrge Sørensen.
The environmental award went to the Danish Big Climate Database.
Last The year was a success for Finland in the race, with three out of five awards went to Finnish artists.
This year, Finland’s nominees for the award included Siiri Enoranta from his novel Summer storm, Linda Bondestam from his picture book Mitt bottenliv – av en ensam axolotl, Hamy Ramezan directed and scripted film First snow, color soprano Anu Komsi, jazz soloists Verneri Pohjola, Pajtim Statovci Bollaand his novel and Heidi von Wright from his collection of poems Autofiktiv dikt av Heidi von Wright.
The prizes this year were worth DKK 300,000, or about EUR 40,300.
The Council awards cultural prizes every year and they also have a strong international position. The oldest of the five awards is the Literature Prize, first awarded in 1962.
