Magdalena Andersson, the first woman to become Sweden’s prime minister, was re-elected to the post this Monday (29), just five days after being chosen for the post and resigning on the same day.
Last Wednesday (24), Andersson had been elected by the Swedish Parliament, but resigned after just a few hours. Leader of the Social Democratic Party, she took the measure because she suffered a defeat in the Legislature, which approved a budget proposal presented by the opposition, which caused the Green Party to leave the minority coalition government formed with the Social Democrats.
This Monday, Andersson ran in another parliamentary vote, this time for a purely Social Democratic minority government.
She had 101 votes in favor and 173 against, and 75 abstentions were recorded. Under Sweden’s electoral rules, a new prime minister is elected if the majority of the legislature does not vote against him.
