Both drivers and formula fans support the idea of solving the pole position based on time trials like normal race weekends.
Motorsport in the royal class, formula number one moved into sprint races this year with the addition of three saturday races to the calendar.
Next season, the number of sprint races will increase from three to six, the British newspaper says The Guardian. In addition, the actual race Pole Place will probably be resolved in time in the future.
The concept of the sprint races will be tested this season so that Friday’s time trials will determine the starting order for Saturday’s sprint. The starting grid for Sunday’s race, in turn, will be determined by the sprint race.
The sprint race has filled its place on the basis of two race weekends already run, but the number one sports director Ross Brawn believes in a little fine-tuning.
It’s precisely a way to settle for Pile Place in Sunday’s race.
“Both formula fans and drivers have consistently commented that the person driving the fastest lap with a small amount of fuel is the pole position holder,” says Brawn, according to The Guardian.
Brawn says he is hopeful of change.
The timing of upcoming sprint races is unclear, but there are no plans to place the races on the first or last weekends of the race calendar.
In this season’s sprint races, points will be awarded to only the top three drivers. The situation is likely to change next season: one option to consider is to allocate one third of the points of the actual race to the top ten of the sprint race.
“It goes down enough for drivers competing for lower rankings to want to fight for points, but the impact on the championship battle wouldn’t be too great,” Brawn says.
According to him, the details of the upcoming sprint races will be discussed with the teams after the Brazilian gp. The third and final sprint race of the season will be run in Brazil.
