His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum welcomed President Joko Widodo and his accompanying delegation, expressing the UAE’s pride in the close friendship and cooperation relations that exist between the two countries, and the UAE’s aspiration to push forward the partnership paths in the various main sectors that support the development trends of the two friendly countries. In light of the congruence of viewpoints and the common desire to discover more partnership opportunities in a way that lives up to the hoped-for level of development and prosperity between the two countries during the next stage.
His Highness said in a tweet on Twitter yesterday: “While receiving the Indonesian President, Joko Widodo at the Expo, we signed agreements with Indonesia in the fields of aviation, petroleum, energy, investment protection, financial payment systems and others. The value of our trade exchanges with them is 7 billion dirhams in 2020, and we want Doubling cooperation with them as a strategic partner to reach new heights.”

The meeting included discussing ways to enhance bilateral cooperation within the various economic and technical sectors, including enhancing trade exchange between the two countries, which during the past few years has witnessed encouraging growth, as the value of the UAE’s non-oil foreign trade with Indonesia reached two billion dollars during 2020, while the total exchanges reached Trade between the two countries has reached more than $11 billion over the past five years.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed ways to advance the fields of cooperation in many vital sectors that form basic pillars within the development plans in the two countries, including the sectors of investment, energy, technology, financial services, travel, tourism and infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of creating space for private sector companies on both sides. To discover the opportunities inherent in those sectors, whether in Indonesia or the UAE, and to monitor the possibility of launching constructive partnerships in which the private sector contributes mainly, increasing the amount of interest and the investment return for both parties.
In addition, the meeting touched on discussing a number of issues of common concern, including the current developments on the regional and international arenas, foremost of which are global efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, and what it requires for concerted plans and initiatives to accelerate global recovery rates, as well as addressing the issue of climate change, which It has become a real challenge that casts a shadow on the future of the world, and what the current environmental situation calls for a rapid global movement in which efforts are united in order to activate the necessary measures to reach climate neutrality, which the UAE announced its goal to achieve by the year 2050 in the framework of its full support for international efforts aimed at preserving The environment, and its commitment to aligning national development priorities with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, set by the United Nations within the 2030 Global Agenda.
