The Moldovagaz company has asked the National Energy Regulatory Agency for permission to double the domestic tariffs for gas purchased from Gazprom. This was announced on Friday, November 5, by the press service of the gas distribution company.
We are talking about a rise in the price of gas for end consumers from 4128 lei to 9396 lei per 1000 cubic meters. m (from $ 236 to $ 537), specifies Publika.md. The new tariff will be approved by November 10 during an open meeting of the regulator.
“The main factor that caused the need to revise the tariffs was a significant increase in purchase prices,” – noted in “Moldovagaz”.
On November 1, it became known about the start of gas supplies to Moldova under a new contract with the Russian “Gazprom”. Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that the republic is pleased with the extension of the contract. In her opinion, the gas crisis in the country ended with the signing of the agreement.
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure of the country Andrei Spinu said that the price of gas for Moldova under a contract with Gazprom could drop to $ 400 per thousand cubic meters. m in December. According to him, the republic will sign an agreement with Russia on cooperation in the field of energy by the end of 2022.
On November 2, the head of the Moldovagaz company, Vadim Ceban, said that Chisinau did not intend to pay off the debt to Gazprom by raising fuel tariffs for the population. However, he admitted that part of the funds to pay off the debt to the Russian company is planned to be obtained through the tariff increase, since part of the debt was formed in the period from 2011 to 2015, when Moldova refused to increase tariffs, despite the growth of Moldovagaz’s expenses.
In total, Moldova’s total debt to Gazprom is about $ 7.5 billion.
