The first Russian region to introduce QR codes in public transport

Tatarstan will be the first Russian region to introduce QR codes in public transport. The new rule will take effect on November 22, informs Kommersant.

In particular, the republic will introduce a ban on entering city, suburban and municipal transport without a QR code on vaccination against coronavirus, transferred COVID-19 or medical contraindications for vaccination. The document will also have to be presented in the Kazan metro.

Passengers will also check QR codes during ticket sales. According to the deputy head of the Ministry of Transport of Tatarstan, Andrei Yegorov, in the absence of a document, citizens will have to leave the transport. On November 16, the recruitment of QR controllers began in the republic.

The requirement for the presence of QR codes in public transport will be introduced by order of the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. The carriers were also promised to provide a subsidy for the purchase of special equipment to verify the document.

Earlier it was reported that the government would check the readiness of the transport system for QR codes. First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Andrei Belousov added that the introduction of this measure is a necessity.

On November 12, bills on QR codes in transport and public places were submitted to the State Duma. The initiative does not regulate the operation of public transport, pharmacies, grocery stores and retail outlets with essential goods.
