Anode Energie files for bankruptcy due to energy prices

After Welkom Energie and Enstroga, another energy company collapsed on Thursday due to the increased market prices. Anode Energie, a company with about 14,000 customers, will soon also file for bankruptcy with the court. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has been informed about the upcoming bankruptcy filing and will revoke the company’s supply license, a spokesperson for the regulator confirmed on Thursday. NRC.

The party from which Anode purchases energy would not have fulfilled its obligations, the energy company writes in a press release that is in the hands of the ANP news agency. As a result, the company suddenly had to buy gas and electricity at the sharply increased market prices. Anode did not have enough cash in hand for this, which made bankruptcy inevitable. The energy company was not immediately available for comment on Wednesday.

The company’s customers do not have to fear for their energy supply due to the bankruptcy, according to the ACM. Their gas and electricity will not be cut off. In the near future, a bankruptcy trustee will look for another company that wants to take over the customers. If that fails, the clientele will be divided among other suppliers.

Relatively limited European gas reserves and a sharply increased demand for energy have caused gas and electricity prices to rise sharply in recent months. In November, electricity was on average more than four times as expensive as a year earlier, and gas almost six times as expensive.
