Another suspected case of the Ômicron variant is investigated, in Rio

Rio de Janeiro is investigating a suspected case of the Ômicron variant in a passenger who disembarked from South Africa on the 21st. The flight made stops in Johannesburg, Ethiopia and São Paulo. The information was confirmed by the state secretary of Health, Daniel Soranz, according to the Correio Braziliense newspaper.

The sample from the passenger exam is being analyzed at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). The 29-year-old woman arrived in Brazil with a negative test and no symptoms. Days later she took the test again and the result was positive.

The Health Department reported that the patient took two doses of Pfizer’s vaccine against covid-19 in Brazil.

This Wednesday (1), the Adolfo Lutz Institute and the São Paulo Health Department confirmed the third case of the variant in Brazil. The 29-year-old passenger came from Ethiopia and disembarked in Brazil on Saturday (27). He was vaccinated with two doses of Pfizer’s immunizer.

The first two cases of the variant were a 41-year-old male and a 37-year-old female from South Africa. The couple took the single dose of Janssen and tested positive on 25 November.
