China The WTA tennis tour boycotted China over the disappearance of Peng Shui

According to the WTA, a Chinese player is not allowed to communicate freely.

Tennis Women’s Professional Tour WTA Chair Steve Simon said on Wednesday that the WTA will cancel all of its tournaments scheduled to be played in China.

Underlying the concern is the Chinese player Peng Shuaista. He disappeared in early November after accusing the former Chinese deputy prime minister of coercing into a sexual act.

“I am announcing the immediate cancellation of all WTA tournaments in China, including Hong Kong,” Simon said.

“With a good conscience, I don’t understand how I can ask our athletes to compete there,” when Peng Shuai is not allowed to communicate freely and is apparently pressured to deny his claim to sexual activity.

Simon also said he was concerned about other players and tournament staff in tournaments scheduled to be played in China next year.
