But with the development of technology and the terrifying boom of “Social Media”, forms of electronic blackmail have developed, even affecting men, teenagers, and even children in most countries of the world. The other half of the world, which is difficult to track completely, the security services and the relevant social authorities have no choice but to contain the victim and provide all possible assistance to it, the most important of which is providing support and assistance and scanning any content that appears on the Internet, and above all making sure that the perpetrator does not submit to the perpetrator !
Submission, as cybersecurity experts and criminal psychology assert, turns the victim into a ring on the criminal’s finger, and whatever promises he makes to him that he will stop blackmailing him as soon as he responds to the first request, whether it is transferring money or doing what the blackmailer asks, but the latter continues to blackmail him because he realizes that It became a soft dough in his hand!
There is absolutely no doubt that the UAE provides protection stages that are considered the best of its kind in the world against these crimes, as it provides more than one means of rapid communication with all its security services, whether by phone or the Internet, and directly intervenes to contain the victim and save him from the trap of extortion, in addition to the fact that the legislator The Emirati imposed strict penalties on anyone who tried to be involved in this crime.
Article 16 of Federal Law No. 5 of 2012 regarding information technology crimes and its amendments stipulates that “a penalty of imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years and a fine of no less than 250 thousand dirhams and not more than 500 thousand dirhams, or one of these two penalties, shall be imposed on anyone who threatens another person to carry him.” For committing an act or abstaining from it, by using a computer network or an information technology means, and the penalty shall be imprisonment for a period not exceeding 10 years if the threat is to commit a felony or attributing matters offensive to honor and consideration.
In the end, and in light of the lawsuits we are witnessing, we do not fail to warn against getting carried away in relationships with strangers through social media platforms, or sharing personal photos or any content whose owner is afraid of appearing in public, and in the case – God forbid – someone falls into the trap of these criminals. We repeat, “Beware and submit.”
