Inflation in the US reaches 6.8% in 12 months, the highest in 39 years

The US Department of Labor Statistics reported on Friday (10) that inflation in the country recorded in November was the highest for a 12-month period since June 1982.

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.8% month-on-month in November, seasonally adjusted, after rising 0.9% in October, while the indicator accumulated in 12 months changed by 6.8%, before seasonal adjustment.

According to the report, energy was among the main villains of this inflation, with an increase of 33.3% in 12 months – the sub-items commodities of energy, gasoline and diesel oil had increases that approached 60%.

Piped gas also had a strong increase, accumulating a variation of 25.1% in one year, while the segments of new vehicles and used cars and trucks also had double-digit inflation in 12 months, of respectively 11.1% and 31.4 %.
