SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Russian company Uralkali, one of the largest potash producers in the world, announced this Monday that it has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the capital of UPI Norte, a shareholder in the largest Brazilian fertilizer distributor FertGrow.
Without revealing the value of the operation, the buyer stated in a note that the deal is consistent with Uralkali’s strategy, to ensure sales flexibility with a focus on developing its own distribution.
“Brazil is one of the biggest consumers of mineral fertilizers, therefore, the acquisition of a stake in FertGrow will considerably help Uralkali to optimize its operations in Latin America”, said the CEO of Uralkali Trading, Alexander Terletskiy.
