President Emmanuel Macron gave a reception for the skippers of the Vendée Globe sailing.
Sailor Ari Huusela On the day of Finland’s independence, he got to the real festivities of the castle.
Huusela was an invited guest of the President of France Emmanuel Macronin at the reception at the Élysée Palace in Paris.
Macron invited all 33 skippers who took part in the Vendée Globe sailing in the spring.
Huusela’s sailing around the globe ended in March. Huusela became the fourth Finn to sail alone around the globe. The former have been Tapio Lehtinen (2018-2019) Harry Harkimo and Pentti Salmi (1986–1987).
Huusela was the last of the sailors to survive. Eight skippers interrupted. At the Vendée Globe, he was the first Nordic ever.
Only 84 sailors have reached the finish line of the ocean race during its history. More than 4,000 people have climbed Mount Everest, and nearly 600 people have visited space.
“I got to celebrate Vendée Globe and Finland that evening. I am so grateful for so much. According to the race, entry is as much behind the extreme work as the sailing itself, ”Huusela said.
At the reception, President Macron awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur. They got the winner of the competition Yannick Bestaven and participated in the Vendée Globe for the fifth time Jean Le Cam.
In the race, Le Cam rescued a shipwrecked in the demanding conditions of the Indian Ocean Kevin Escoffierin.
