AstraZeneca has denied information about the low effectiveness of the vaccine

The British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has denied information that has appeared in the media about the low effectiveness of its vaccine against coronavirus among people over 65 years old. This was reported by the British edition Express on Monday, January 25th.

According to a company spokesman, reports that the vaccine is only 8% effective in older populations are completely wrong.

Earlier Monday tabloid Bild citing sources, said the German government believes that the European regulator will authorize the use of the coronavirus vaccine by the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca only among citizens under 65.

Moreover, the newspaper Handelsblatt, in turn, with reference to sources in the ruling coalition of Germany, indicates that this vaccine only in 8% of cases causes the desired reaction of the body in people over 65 years old. The publication concludes from this that the vaccination strategy of the federal government may turn out to be a failure.

On January 22, European Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakides announced that the Anglo-Swedish company AstraZeneca, without waiting for the official certification of its COVID-19 vaccine in the European Union (EU) market, announced that it had more than halved the supply of the drug.

On January 12, AstraZeneca applied for the registration of a coronavirus vaccine with the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

It was reported that the procedure for evaluating the drug will be carried out in an accelerated mode. In accordance with it, a conclusion on permission to use the vaccine in the European Union can be issued until January 29.

Vaccination against COVID-19 in European countries began on December 27. To date, the EU countries have approved the use of Moderna and Pfizer / BioNtech vaccines.
