Hermit Agafya Lykova refused to move to Moscow

The famous Siberian hermit Agafya Lykova refused to move to Moscow. This was told by the primate of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church – Metropolitan of Moscow and All Russia Korniliy, reports RIA News

She explained the refusal with the behest of her father Karp Lykov. According to her, he predicted that Agafya would die if he left his home. Now, said Korniliy, Lykova “lives the life that Christians should live – in work and prayer.”

On March 10, it was reported that Agafya Lykova moved into a new house built with the support of public figure Oleg Deripaska. The construction of the house of the ascetic began in December 2020. Agafya Lykova herself asked the businessman for help. Due to the inaccessibility of the territory of the Lykovs’ settlement, the house was built in stages. To shorten the construction time, the wooden house was assembled in Abakan, the logs were numbered and disassembled for delivery to a hard-to-reach area – to be drawn to Lykova. The most difficult stage in the construction of the house was the delivery of lumber. The logs were brought in three cars and a tractor to the recreation center by the Ada River, which is located 250 kilometers from Agafia’s dwelling. Further, the building material was transported by airboat. In total, it took about 18 such trips, since one raft can only hold one and a half tons.

Hermit Agafya Lykova is 76 years old. She was born into a family of Old Believers who consider a secluded life far from human civilization to be salutary for the soul and body. Since the late 1930s, the Lykov family has lived in complete isolation from civilization. After 1946, the Lykovs settled on the bank of the Erinat River, a tributary of the Abakan. Agafya Lykova is the subject of many publications, books and media reports.
