The statistical report of the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority during the first quarter of this year 2021 revealed the implementation of the time plan for the combined cycle project at the Layyah power generation plant, with a total installed capacity of 1026 megawatts, to be implemented in three phases. General Electric Company is carrying out their installation operations at the Hamriyah power generation plant with a production capacity of (1800) megawatts, while the current was connected and operated to 936 sites in the city of Sharjah and the periodic maintenance of the main stations of the Authority was accomplished at a rate ranging between 75% to 90% and the operational work was completed. And preventive and tests in high-pressure stations for the distribution of electricity and the amendment and regulation of lines paths to raise the efficiency of the network, in the interest of the Authority to provide the best services to the residents of the Emirate of Sharjah.
The Director of the Electricity Production Department, Eng. Issa Al-Suwaidi, said that the authority relies on statistics to follow up all projects and the percentage of completion at the specified time and work on the continuous development of all projects and seeks to develop electricity production and distribution stations and networks in all regions of the Emirate of Sharjah.
He pointed out that during the first quarter of the current year 2021, a number of procedures were completed to complete the combined cycle project at the Layyah power plant with a total installed capacity of 1026 megawatts, as the project is being implemented in three phases, the first phase with a capacity of 345 megawatts and will be operated during October 2021 and the second phase 345 Megawatts, to be completed in January 2022, the third with a capacity of 336 megawatts, and to be completed in July 2022.
He pointed out that with regard to the operation of the first and second gas unit at the Layyah station, the metal bases of the turbine building have been covered, the installation of the heat recovery chimney has also been completed, and painting works are underway, and the connection of natural gas lines and the connection of liquid fuel (diesel) lines have been completed and linked to the station. And in a step that is the first of its kind, the authority acquired the first two (HA) gas turbines from “General Electric” company, and they are being installed at the Hamriyah power plant with a production capacity of (1800) megawatts. Work is underway to cover the metal bases of the turbine building in the steam unit. At Al Hamriya Station, the crane for the steam turbine has also been installed.
The Director of the Electricity Services Department, Eng. Hassan Al Zarouni, confirmed that the statistical report revealed the connection and operation of electricity services for 936 buildings during the first quarter of this year, which included the delivery of electricity to 457 residential villas, 33 government projects, 209 industrial projects, 229 commercial projects and 8 farms.
He pointed out that the electricity connection is done after the technical inspection procedures are done and the integrity of the internal and external connections is ensured through specialized technical teams.
As for the regular maintenance work for the main electricity production stations, the statistical report confirmed that 75% of the maintenance of the Layyah and Wasit stations has been completed, and 90% of the Hamriyah stations have been completed.
