The young Russian opposition that grows in the shadow of Alexéi Navalny

First modification:

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny is serving a two-and-a-half-year sentence on corruption charges in a “penal colony” in the city of Pokrov, located about 100 kilometers northeast of Moscow. His imprisonment sparked the biggest protests against the Kremlin in recent years. Despite the wave of arrests, the Russian opposition, supported mainly by young people, is trying to rebuild itself under the image of its leader behind bars.

Among the 10,000 arrested across the country for participating in the protests is the young Anastasia Pantchenko. She was part of the unprecedented demonstrations against President Vladimir Putin in Krasnodar, a city of almost a million inhabitants in southeastern Russia that had never rebelled against the power of Moscow.

Once free, Pantchenko continues his militancy with other young followers of Alexei Navalny. In this report, these activists, many of them raised under the Putin government, display their hopes of reaching a political alternative in Russia.
