Ukrainian sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempting to transfer S-300 components

The man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for trying to export spare parts for the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine. This was announced on Monday, April 26, at the FSB Public Relations Center.

“The verdict of the Krasnodar Regional Court against the citizen of Ukraine Marchenko A.V. for committing a crime under Art. 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Espionage”). By a court decision, he was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in a strict regime colony, ”the statement says.

In May 2018, the man received an assignment from Petro Khomenko, an employee of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, to purchase spare parts used in the S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems in the Russian Federation, and he was also allocated $ 163,000 for this purpose. The secret items had to be handed over to an exporter from Ukraine.

In April 2019, Alexander Marchenko was detained; the investigation collected exhaustive evidence of his guilt. They formed the basis of the court’s decision.

On March 29, 2021, the FSB also reported that a former footballer, citizen of Ukraine Vasily Vasilenko, who was sentenced in Russia to 12 years in a strict regime colony for espionage, tried to convey to the Ukroboronprom concern information about a batch of C-300 anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as spare parts.

He was arrested in October 2019 on charges of attempted smuggling of hazardous substances, weapons or cultural property (part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). On July 6, 2020, the arrest of the Ukrainian was extended already in the espionage case (276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
