How is Love in my life, the new album by Abel Pintos

Three situations in which Abel Pintos is the central protagonist. The first, one of those year-end recitals at a neighborhood music school, in a bar in Flores; on the stage, a girl about 8 years old sings The key. Below, everyone – but everyone, without distinction of age or clothing, gender or anything, accompany her with their lips. Nobody does not know.

In the second, which are two, Eruca Sativa is on the stage of Luna Park and the Spanish Leiva in the Opera. The round trip is intense in both venues and the audiences are on fire. But when Abel comes up, as a guest, everything is enhanced.

It doesn’t matter if it’s rock or what, when your voice adds to Absent love or Someone, the effect is volcanic.

The third, at the Movistar Arena Pintos they are pleased to have their repertoire backed by an orchestra. In the audience, in the preview, someone warns that he is not a fan, that he is not a follower, that he is not Abelmaníaca, that he does not have any of his albums … And after a while he says that “it is impressive”, that “the concert is great”, that “I enjoyed it a lot”, and a few other things.

At this point, the question “what do we talk about when we talk about a popular artist?” the confusion between popularity and massiveness, hardly serves to agree. But when it comes to looking for references to cases in which both terms are one, Abel has all the secrets of the artistic formula that achieves it.

The record debut in “Estado de padre”

A few hours before hour 0 of this Friday, May 28, from which time Love in my life, the first album that Abel Pintos publishes as a father, is available on all digital platforms, Spotify confirms that some 30 thousand people signed up – or something like that, in an unpublished case – to listen to the album as soon as it appeared.

They are just a handful of the many more who, by the time this is published, will have encountered the 15 songs that make up album number 13 of the singer and author’s discography, which last May 11 turned 37 years old. Several of them, old and not so old acquaintances.

In that group are I want to sing, a kind of declaration of principles and wishes; the protocumbian Pintos of The spell that adds forces with the Spanish Beatriz Luengo; the prenatal Free Stone and the confessional Love in my life. “It’s because of you / I’m no longer going / like a ship adrift”sings Abel. And one can interpret what he is talking about, albeit with a generous margin of error.

The necessary so that the song, like almost all the songs of the Bahian artist, ceases to be his exclusive property as soon as someone hears it and appropriates it. Because that is, to a large extent, the question that made everyone end up accompanying that 8-year-old girl who sang The key.

Songs for everyone, a brand of identity

A kind of identity mark that Abel strictly respects in his brand new work. The songs of Love in my life they are, once again, songs for everyone. Whether we like it or not.

Go on the side of a light and catchy pop with indie airs like Back and forth; for that of Walk (Smooth and Elegant) that he shares with the Cuban Yotuel Romero, in which some reference to Malena, that of tango, throws a Buenos Aires anchor in the Caribbean rhythm that surrounds it; or for the one of the ballad full-fledged in Living without you.

Or for the one with the torn and tearing Has your love, where the singer’s voice appears in its maximum dimension. And for Pintos “maximum” is very maximum.

Songs that honor that of wanting to break apart a little and “belong to everyone” that declaims in I want to sing, which sounds convincing wherever you hear it.

Even when it comes, like Free Stone, from one of those songs that they are left as defeated once the wish they express is fulfilled; but that will go on forever accompanying thousands of similar desires. Again, that goes the music of Pintos. To accompany wishes, fears, loneliness, celebrations, pains, hopes and disappointments.

In that plan appear round pieces like Of me with you, that Abel sings with the mexican band Camila; or Mirror, a song that after an intro that invites you to stay reveals itself as a confessional roadside folk.

“In order not to lose the center, / I was getting inside and I got away from the others. / And now that I’m in another place, /I have more air to breathe, sings.

If the lyrics were in English, a few fragments of the theme would fit effortlessly on a Coldplay record. This is how open the roadmap of Love in my life, what in Shots the singer travels a path similar to that of Mirror, this time in partnership with Lali.

Do not stopInstead, it is going down a lane that appears less ambitious. But the appearance, in this case definitely deceives, and the piece combines perfectly with that of “the best for last”.

Only, weighing the song against several of the others, starting with Free stone and following by I want to sing or U.S, make it difficult to choose the best of all, framed in a remarkable production and orchestration work.

Time to share

In this journey between style and style, a lot has to do with Abel’s decision to open the game to share compositions with artists from different parts of the world like the Spanish Vanesa Martín, the Puerto Rican Kany García, the Peruvian Gianmarco Zignano and the Mexican Mario Domm, among others, besides, of course, his brother Ariel.

“All of them, authors and producers, left their accent marked with my character and my own way of interpreting,” says Abel in the release newsletter. And complete: “The love in my life has two very special characteristics: it is a very shared album and at the same time it is the most personal album I’ve ever written until today.”

That is why, perhaps, it is that once again it will not be too long for many (and many) to appropriate it. With Abel PIntos it works like this. Shattered by a thousand parts, to be a bit of everyone.
