Possible cause of explosion in Caspian Sea named in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has named a possible cause of the explosion in the Caspian Sea. It is reported by RIA News with reference to the country’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

According to the department, the explosion could have occurred due to a volcanic eruption. It is noted that the specialists of the ministry are currently investigating the incident.

Earlier it was reported that a gas production platform caught fire in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. According to the source RIA News familiar with the situation, the fire started after an explosion that occurred near the Umid platform.

At the same time, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) stated that no accidents were recorded on offshore platforms in the Caspian Sea. According to preliminary information from the company, a mud volcano erupted.
