A chef from the Kuban cooked borscht for the Russian Book of Records

Chef from Kuban Vladimir Zemlyanov got into the Russian Book of Records – he cooked 1101 liters of borscht. This was announced on Sunday, August 1, in the press service of the Krasnodar Territory Administration.

The traditional national dish was dubbed “the largest Kuban borscht in Russia”, brewed in the Ataman ethno-complex. Initially, Zemlyanov planned to cook 700 liters of the dish strictly according to the old recipe, but as a result, its amount amounted to a record 1101 liters.

“We have prepared borscht exclusively from Kuban products. Most of them were bought on the market. I am an indigenous resident of the Krasnodar Territory, and I can say with absolute certainty that in the Kuban borscht set is the most affordable “, – the words of Zemlyanov are quoted in the text of the message published on website regional administration.

The chef did not deny the possibility of renewing his record in the future. The dish was delivered to the Cossacks of the regional Cossack society for testing.

The recipe for the record borscht includes: 80 kg of local onions and carrots, 120 kg of potatoes, 100 kg of meat, 100 kg of fresh cabbage, 80 kg of beets, 25 kg of tomatoes, 50 kg of tomato paste, 20 kg of bell peppers and 5 kg of herbs.

Earlier in March, it became known that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine had submitted an application for the inclusion of traditional Ukrainian borscht in the UNESCO list of cultural heritage.

On October 10, 2020, the British edition of The Times spoke about the “hot war” between Russia and Ukraine over borscht. Disputes over whose national dish this is, flared up with renewed vigor after Kiev’s decision to add the dish to the UNESCO World Heritage List as Ukrainian. However, the readers of the newspaper unexpectedly offered to recognize the borscht as Polish.

As noted, the “borsch war” broke out in 2019 after a recipe for the well-known and beloved symbol of Russian cuisine – borscht – appeared in the publication of the Russia account on Twitter. Ukrainian users have left a lot of angry comments under the post, claiming that the borscht is Ukrainian.

In December 2020, the Ukrainian Embassy in France turned to the compilers of the Michelin culinary guide, who called borscht not Ukrainian, but Russian national dish and made changes to their release.
