The wave of low temperatures that hit southern Brazil in recent days seems to have affected Caxias-RS and Joinville-SC. This Sunday’s match (1st), between Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, for the ninth round of the Series D of the Brazilian Championship, he had few emotions and the score at the Centenário stadium, in Caxias do Sul (RS), did not come out of zero. The duel was broadcast live on TV Brazil.
The draw does not change the situation of the teams in Group 8. JEC, still undefeated, occupies the second place in the bracket, with 17 points, four more than the Gauchos, who appear in third position. If the first phase ended now, both would qualify for the knockout.
The first half had Caxias with more offensive presence, despite little effectiveness. It was for the hosts the clearest goal chance of the match. On minute 42, midfielder Jean Dias took a free kick on the left, and full-back Bruno Ré, free in the small area and almost “glued” to the crossbar, headed out.
The teams went to the break in a scolding with the referee. On minute 12, defender Lucas Carvalho raised in the area on the right and goalkeeper Rafael Pascoal held the ball with his feet inside the goal and his hands outstretched, trying to prevent the round from crossing the line. The players of the team from Rio Grande do Sul complained. At 35, striker Chrystian was knocked down on the area line by midfielder Paulinho Santos, but the refereeing did not score much, to the revolt of the Joinville squad.
Santa Catarina returned more aggressive for the second half. On minute 11, Chrystian made the turn in the area and hit the post. The match, however, dropped significantly from pace, with the teams having difficulties to create dangerous moves. The goalkeepers did little work in the final 45 minutes.
Next Saturday (7), the JEC receives the Rio Branco-PR at Arena Joinville, at 3:00 pm (Brasilia time). At the same time, on Sunday (8), Caxias visits Aimoré-RS at Monumental Cristo-Rei, in São Leopoldo (RS). Duels are valid for the tenth round of Series D.
