A rare bird of prey, the wasp eater, was spotted in the Kurkino Natural Park in northwestern Moscow. About it informs edition “Moscow. Northwest”. The animal photographer Elena Shvydun managed to capture the bird in the Red Book.
“The wasp is listed in the Red Book of the capital under the zero category, which means that it belongs to very rare, extinct species,” said biologist Alena Sokolova. She added that the bird got its name for a reason, because her favorite food is wasps. Also, the diet of these birds includes bumblebees, bees, mice and frogs.
The expert noted that the bird is not afraid of insect bites, as it has protective small and dense feathers around its beak. The biologist warns that wasp eaters are not afraid of people, but you should not come close and try to catch a bird.
Earlier, a rare cormorant was found in the Moscow region. This bird has not been seen on the territory of the Moscow region for over a century. On the Muravka River, the cormorant is very successful in catching fish. According to local fishermen, the river is home to bream, roach, perch, pike perch, asp and burbot.
