US ‘death planner attack’ in drone attack in eastern Afghanistan
The United States has launched a drone strike on IS-Khoresan, the Afghan branch of the Islamic State (IS) terror group, in eastern Afghanistan. A member of the group that was involved in the planning of the attack at Kabul airport was killed. That reports the US Department of Defense, Reuters writes.
The attack was carried out in the Afghan province of Nangarhar, east of Kabul on the border with Pakistan. According to the Pentagon, no civilians were killed in the drone attack “to our knowledge”.
Thirteen American servicemen and dozens of Afghan civilians were killed in the suicide bombing on Thursday. President Joe Biden said in a speech Thursday evening in response to the attack that the US would track down those responsible.

The Dutch ambassador to Afghanistan, Caecilia Wijers, returned from that country on Friday, with the diplomatic representation still in Kabul for the Dutch evacuations. According to outgoing Defense Minister Ank Bijleveld (CDA), “dozens” of interpreters remain behind in Afghanistan.
While most western governments have been eyeing the capital in recent days, a crisis has also emerged in the rest of the country. The UN refugee agency UNHCR warned on Friday that up to half a million Afghans could be adrift by the end of this year.
