Has the Union decided on the wrong candidate for Chancellor in Armin Laschet? A survey is like a bitter setback for the CDU man – because of Markus Söder from the CSU.
Munich / Unterschleißheim – “Armin Laschet can only become chancellor with a lot of votes from the south.” Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) let the CDU and Union chancellor candidates know on his stadium tour for the federal election in 2021 at an event in Unterschleißheim that it would be without Support from the Free State and nearby Baden-Württemberg will probably not work with the successor to Prime Minister Angela Merkel (CDU).
Chancellor candidate of the Union: supporters are for Markus Söder (CSU) instead of Armin Laschet (CDU)
After all, around 24.2 million of the approximately 83 million inhabitants of Germany come from the south-west and south-east. And finally, the CSU rules in Munich, and after all, the CDU still has many voters in the Stuttgart metropolitan region and beyond, as far as Lake Constance and the Black Forest. Enough of geography. Because it is precisely this southern connection that threatens to become a problem for Laschet from the Rhineland.
Of course I support Armin Laschet.
“I want us to be successful as the CSU and to be able to make Armin Laschet chancellor,” continued Söder in Unterschleißheim. The Bavarian head of government, of all things, can become a stumbling block for the CDU boss and prime minister from North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Because: After shortly before the SPD Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz with his party (23%) Laschet and the Union (22%) according to the trend barometer of the Forsa Institute for RTL and n-tv had overtaken in favor of the voters, the support for the chairman of the CDU is apparently crumbling even at the base.
At least if it’s according to a Civey poll for that Augsburg General which was released on August 25th. As a result, believe it or not, 70 percent of the Union support a change of candidate for chancellor, and that only one month before the general election on September 26th. Accordingly, only 23 percent of the supporters of the CDU and CSU are in favor of holding onto Armin Laschet as candidate for chancellor.
In the survey on behalf of Augsburger Allgemeine the question had previously been asked: “In your opinion, should CSU boss Markus Söder replace CDU boss Armin Laschet as candidate for Union chancellor?” To put it into perspective: Between August 7th and August 24th, 2021, the answers of 5090 participants from Germany were taken into account.
Chancellor candidate of the Union: Markus Söder (CSU) wants to support Armin Laschet from the CDU
“Of course I support Armin Laschet. Because: We don’t want Olaf Scholz to become Federal Chancellor. And also not, sorry that it will be Annalena Baerbock, ”said Markus Söder at the election campaign event for the federal elections north of Munich. But: Will the 54-year-old Franconian, of all people, with his popularity among Union supporters, become a major hurdle for the two sister parties? (pm)
