The Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) established a series of measures to strengthen self-care skills, healthy living and emotional support between the student and teacher community, starting from the return to classes.
The general director, Luis Antonio Ramírez Pineda, indicated that the lines of action before the reopening of the schools are based on the “Guide of socio-emotional development activities for the school context, Back to school, Making ECOS in my School: Healthy Mind in Healthy Body”, prepared by the Health Regulatory Directorate.
The guide establishes daily activities so that teachers can replicate them in their educational centers in children and adolescents, up to secondary level, among them, health and care of emotions, an aspect in which efforts have been underpinned, since for decades it was not considered a priority aspect in health, he pointed.
It is a sum of efforts on the part of the Mexican government agencies for the benefit of the student and teacher sector now that they will rejoin the educational centers once they vaccination against covid-19 has advanced and more population is protected, said.
In turn, the Normative Director of Health, Ramiro López Elizalde, pointed out that these useful tools are included in the National Strategy for the Safe Return to Basic Education Schools, prepared by the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the ISSSTE.
“We are providing specific tactics to care for and strengthen children and young people in the socio-emotional part, which allows them to express and overcome the stress that the pandemic has caused,” he said.
He explained that the guide is based on three care instruments: socio-emotional support tools for education in the context of a pandemic that offers a compendium of daily activities aimed at strengthening the self-care skills, healthy living and emotional support in a practical way.
A journal of emotions and self-care is included for the student in which it will be reflected, in written or graphic way, the emotional experience lived and the self-care actions undertaken during the day.
In addition, through the tool called telementorship, “it will be possible to monitor the application of the social-emotional support program and attend to the feedback of the school community in each state.”
The document is available on the SEP basic education portal, which you can check here.
