Afghanistan wheelchair basketball team captain and women’s rights activist Nilofar Bayad is among the tens of thousands of women who have fled Afghanistan in recent days following the arrival of the Taliban in Kabul. Like many other women, she feared for her future in the new Taliban regime. Now she is in exile in Bilbao, Spain, and assures that she never imagined that her life would lead her to leave her country under those circumstances.
