Norris was the first to hit the track in the rain in the third and final qualifying session. He misjudged the difficult conditions and flew out of the corner in Raidillion.
His car rammed hard into the crash barriers and sustained major damage. The driver said on the radio that he was okay, but he was taken to the local clinic as a precaution.
McLaren reported that x-rays were taken of Norris’ elbow, but there was no fracture. He will start from ninth place on Sunday, but his car has a lot of damage and important parts may need to be replaced. In that case, he could be given grid penalties and moved back to the starting grid.
